Initiative is demonstrated by you taking action when something needs doing. In other words, actions in the absence of orders. This is done even when a superior is not around to order it. Think ahead, stay mentally alert and physically awake. It is one thing to be ordered to take out the trash. It is another thing to use initiative, take the trash out, put extra trash bags in the bottom of the can, and replace the trash bag. Take action and think ahead.
